Blinds and shading for Melrose and Melrose Arch

Melrose covers two very different addresses under one name — established garden-suburb houses, and the newer high-density living around Melrose Arch, among the city's highest-value pockets per square metre. Both need shading that's specified, not guessed.

What homes here are like

Melrose proper is a settled, leafy garden suburb of freehold houses, while Melrose Arch has grown into one of Johannesburg's premier mixed-use precincts — apartments and clusters built around a walkable, high-density core. The two housing types sit a few streets apart and call for genuinely different specs.

What suits a Melrose spec

  • Melrose Arch apartments: roller and day/night blinds, usually motorised — practical, quick to fit, and suited to vertical living with tight installation windows.
  • Melrose houses: timber or aluminium venetians in the older reception rooms, where tilt control suits deep window reveals better than a full-drop blind does.
  • External shading for west-facing house facades taking the full afternoon sun.
  • Body corporate sign-off for anything visible from outside in the Arch precinct — we'll work from whatever guideline you've been given.

We measure and fit across Melrose and Melrose Arch from our River Club base close by — same consultant, same written-quote process, same free measure.

Four O'Clock on the Fairway

Our shading guide was written for River Club, but the sun over Melrose is the same sun — 26° south, almost overhead in December and low in the north by June. Only the housing stock changes.
